The 777 Writing Challenge Tag

*post has been updated; sorry I forgot to fix the stats & snippet for Colour Red!*

Well, you know, it's the seventh month of the year, so I figured this would be the perfect time to do this tag. xP and yes, I stole it from Mikayla's archives again. She has the best tags, guys. ;)

Rules:
1. Open your WIP to the seventh page.
2. Scroll past the seventh line.
3. Copy the next seven paragraphs and paste them on your blog for THE WORLD to read.

4. Tag seven people.

So, I have a lot of WIPs. Let's get started. ;)

I was tempted to refuse, but I hadn’t eaten since last night. All the cash I had stolen off the old man at the supermarket had been given to Gavin to pay for the lift. If this guy was willing to give me some food, I’d take it. “Okay, thanks.”
“Awesome!” Phil lunged for something at his feet and pulled a big bag onto his lap. He rummaged around and pulled two crackling bags to the surface. “Cheddar or plain?”
“Cheddar.” If there was anything I loved, it was cheese. Forget candy; a pack of string cheese was the best treat you could hand me.
“Awesome, ’cause I don’t love cheddar and I love plain.” He threw me a medium-sized bag of chips and popped open his own bag. Twisting around to be as sideways as he could, he began to eat cheerfully.
I hesitated to follow his example. Was the whole bag supposed to be mine? I sure wouldn’t have any trouble disposing of it, but would he ask for it back later and then get angry if it was eaten? Cautiously, I crunched into a large chip. The crispy salty cheesiness exploded in my mouth and I barely refrained from a theatrical eye-roll. I loved ruffled chips, and I loved cheddar chips, and the combination was amazing. Not to mention that chips, themselves, were as rare as rain in Aswan. Literally. Look that place up. That’s how many chips I’d had in my life. Less than 1 mm of a chip per year. If chips could be measured in millimetres.
I savoured a handful more chips and then stopped. The bag was still quite full, and very alluring. But if there was one thing I’d learned in my life, it was to go easy on nice things, because the chances were 99.99% that they weren’t mine and I’d end up being yelled at for having them.
Phil was still chewing away, making quite a bit of noise, and chatting about all sorts of random stuff. If I didn’t know better, I would have said that there was nothing in his brain. But he had proven me wrong already. His serious words still rang in my head. Kept me breathing? Yes, God had done that so far—if it was Him that had done it. But what was the use of doing that if I didn’t want to be alive right now?

Foundations | Standalone Christian Historical Fiction Novella // 5, 211 words // 9 pages // status: writing
He flung himself off the horse as Edith, her maid, and her cousin rushed into the house, and followed at their heels. Will sprang onto the porch just as his uncle prepared to slam the door. As soon as he stepped in, Mr. Stevens locked the door and aided his nephews in fortifying it. Then every person seized a firearm and placed themselves at a loophole, while Daisy's brother Matt prepared to reload for them.
As soon as all the preparations were complete, Mrs. Stevens looked about. “Where is Zephaniah?” she exclaimed.
Mr. Stevens's lips were set in a tight line. “He and Jerris were further out,” he replied grimly. “We saw the natives and bushrangers approaching and shouted before we turned and came back. Will was far behind us but he heard, so I suppose that they heard but had not the time to escape.”
Roland started back as he heard these words, his face blanching a deathly white. Despite his condescension, he loved his little brother deeply, and to hear of his untimely death was a terrible thing. Will placed a hand on his elder brother's shoulder.
“Do not worry, Roland. He will be speared and die instantly.”
Roland glanced at him wordlessly. In spite of Will's calm words, he saw a deep agony in his brother's eyes. He, too, was suffering. Roland clasped his hand and turned away, his mouth tight. He would avenge his brother. Let no one doubt of it. He would pay the outlaws and the natives in full for the death of his little brother.
There was a similar expression on Will's face. Edith's mingled grief, shock, and rage. Mrs. Stevens was battling tears, and her husband's struggling with his anger. Marion's eyes were luminous with tears. Daisy and Matt were silent.

Anthony sighed and slowly rolled out of bed. Doug handed him his clothes, and the little boy began to dress, still a little sleepy. Then his eyes fixed on the darkness outside.
“But it's the middle of the night!” he protested.
Doug rolled his eyes. “When else does Micheil sleep?”
Anthony puckered his upper lip into a grimace. “I don’t like going out at night, Doug. Besides, it’s cold.”
“We’ll wear our winter stuff,” Doug retorted as he scrambled into his winter clothes. “And it’s not very cold today. Come on.”
Anthony, used to obedience, silently dressed in his outerwear and then looked at his brother. Doug hoisted on the backpack, then led the way cautiously downstairs. He winced at Anthony’s loud breathing, and panicked inwardly when Anthony accidentally creaked a stair. He hoped desperately that Micheil would stay asleep.
At last they arrived at the back door. Doug carefully opened it, placed their boots outside, and motioned to Anthony to step outside. Stepping out after him, he carefully shut the door and then pulled out his flashlight, turning it on.

Carl nodded. I thought I had never seen anyone so sad before.
I looked back down at the letter, my head whirling. So many things had happened.
But... what was that he had said?
“I pray that if anything happens to me—which will be the only reason why you would read this…”
My head snapped back up. “Wha... what happened? Where is he? What’s going on?”

*Yeah, I cut off parts of this because it's huge spoilers. :D*

Incomprehensible Mercy | Standalone Christian Historical Fiction Short Story // 3,634 words // 11 pages // status: editing
As Connor grit his teeth and resolved proudly that not a sound would escape him, he was startled by a quiet voice near him. "Captain Milton, may I take this boy's lashing for him?"
It was truly a day for astonishment. If the men’s jaws did not fall open, their eyes protruded. Connor twisted his neck and started at John Vale. “Are ye mad?” he hissed.
Disregarding his disrespect, the midshipman held his captain’s eye. The silence was full of suspense.
“Mr. Vale, you are volunteering to be flogged in the place of this rascal.” Captain Milton’s cool voice precised the astonishing preposition.
“Yes, sir.”
Although John’s voice was as quiet as always, every sound could be heard in the deep hush.
Captain Milton consulted his senior officers with his eyebrows. Lieutenant Jason was too flabbergasted to offer any advice. Lieutenant Watt was watching the first lieutenant. Lieutenant Harper gave a brief nod.

“Well, no, I can’t say that I do,” replied Callaghan, shifting in his bed, his eyes still closed. “I never did understand your continual feud with them.—Well, what now?”
This disagreeable inquiry was provoked by a smothered exclamation on the part of his comrade.
“Well, THIS is pleasant!” was Reynard’s sarcastic reply.
“I daresay,” answered Callaghan, ironically, “but I really think you could be quieter about it.—now what is it?”
In reply he heard Reynard tramping about his room, then: “I say, Callaghan! have you seen my doublet?”
“No,” grunted Callaghan, resolutely squeezing his eyes shut.
“But where can it be?”

The Tangled Web | Standalone Christian Historical Fiction // 3, 231 words // 10 pages // status: writing

The boys ate heartily. Ruben was conscious that the old man’s eyes followed their every move, but he betrayed no consciousness of this fact. Tobe, engrossed in his meal, and naturally less preceptive than his elder brother, did not notice. The meal was bountiful and elegant. Ruben somehow felt that all the elegance of this household was simply an empty, desperate show. He wondered what stories had been unfolded in the big, empty, lavish rooms.
Although he stoutly denied it, Tode was quite exhausted by the pain and action of the day, and soon after supper, Ruben politely requested to retire. The old man nodded coldly and rang the bell for Jarvis.
“Jarvis,” he ordered when that functionary appeared, “take the Masters Merryman to the—the—Green room.”
It seemed to Ruben that the cold tone had changed at the last words, The hesitation had been slight, but full of feeling, and the last two words had been curiously quiet. Jarvis seemed utterly untouched, however. He only nodded coldly and stood waiting. Ruben silently strode over to their host and held out his hand. “Good evening, sir. Many thanks, again, for your hospitality.”
The old man scrutinized him carefully for a moment, his eyes keen and probing. Then he quietly shook hands and nodded to Tobe, who grinned a farewell. Ruben picked up his brother and looked enquiringly at the footman, who turned on his heel and led them into the hall. Ruben glanced about him as they walked swiftly down the hall, went up a large staircase, and turned into a large room—well labeled the Green room. It was entirely furnished in dark Lincoln green, with a darker trimming of mahogany brown. Without offering a word, the footman whirled about and stalked away, leaving Ruben to scrutiny his retreating back with a puzzled frown.
Shrugging, the boy entered the room and deposited his brother in one of the armchairs. Both glanced around the room. There were few personal effects in sight, but but from the appearance of the room, the boys felt certain that it had once been occupied. Rube wondered if there had been motive for the old man's placing them in this room. Tobe, overwhelmed by the luxury of the room, gazed about with open mouth, speechless for once. Though a gentlewoman by birth, their mother had been left as a penniless orphan as a young girl, and she had been obliged to support herself by her needle. At the age of eighteen she had been courted by the son of her employer. John Merryman was not rich, nor highly educated, nor of gentle birth; but he was a true gentleman in heart and actions, and his honesty and Christian character had won the heart of the lonely young woman. Their household, although plain, was happy and fully blessed by their Lord.
Mrs. Merryman had contracted consumption when Tobe was still a little child, and after wasting away had died shortly after his seventh birthday. John Merryman had raised the boys on his own--raised them in the fear of the Lord, and reared them to be true men. He had been knocked down and killed by a drunker carter when two years ago, leaving a thirteen-year-old and a nine-year-old son.

The Colour Red | The Colours of Life #1 (The Chronicles of Kalysia, #7) // 43,375 words // 138 pages // status: writing

He still felt as though he were sitting upon a loaded mine. There were dark looks thrown at Leeam; muttered words followed him; and atmosphere in The Center was far from friendly. Jay took greater care than ever to never step out of line, but he seemed forgotten—even Cadell took no notice of him as Jay carried out his work among the machines.
It was the third of May when it happened. Jay and Leeam were out together for once, a rare treat. They were just returning from a stroll down to the riverbank at the edge of the Euratia. Leeam was striding across a street; Jay had paused on the sidewalk to remove a splinter from his bare foot. A truck had been barrelling through the neighbourhood; it suddenly appeared around the corner—a big red pickup. Jay, with a sudden horrible flash of perception, knew what was going to happen before it even occurred. He screamed in a voice so high it was soundless as Leeam jumped and tried to run away. The truck turned viciously and caught him, knocking him to the ground and then rolling remorselessly over him. It roared away, leaving destruction in its wake.
Jay never remembered very clearly why what happened next. He vaguely remembered sprinting across the street and falling on his knees beside Leeam, crying violently. There had been so much red… His fingers had fumbled with Leeam’s neck. There had been no pulse. He dimly remembered crying out in dismay and despair. “No, Leeam, no, no! I need you… I need you so much…” He had tried again to take his brother’s pulse, frantically, then he’d tried Leeam’s wrist, and finally he had laid his hand on his brother’s mouth. He remembered his frantic pleading. “Come on, Leeam, please, breathe!” he’d sobbed, catching his own breath and coughing heavily. “Please, Leeam, please! I need you… I need you… don’t leave me, Leeam, please! Please! Leeam, please…” He had tried Leeam’s pulse again and again, begging, hoping for a welcome breath or beat. “No, Leeam, no…. no… no!” he’d wailed at last, vanquished. He remembered seizing his brother’s limp white hand and holding it close to his own warm, wet cheek. “Leeam, no… I needed you… Leeam, please…. no….” His words had already slipped into the past tense. At the bottom of his heart he had known that he had always known Leeam was dead. And yet he’d still refused to believe it.
Mercifully, the dull despair he sank into robbed him of all memory of what followed that terrible hour. He never knew who found him, nor what they did with Leeam. The rest of that year had been mostly a dim unreality. He was utterly sunken in his grief.

Later on, looking back, he remembered vaguely a visit to The Boss—and he remembered that it was a most frightening and distressful time, which occasionally returned to him in nightmares. He remembered being set to work at spying on the police—taking over Leeam’s work, The Boss said—though even then, Jay had felt sure that Leeam had not sneaked and snooped like this.

But vague as his memories were, Jay was forever sure of a sharp feeling: Leeam had been deliberately killed with the connivance and direction of The Boss; and there had to be a strong reason for this. Leeam, with his deep knowledge of mechanics, had been a useful person to them.

I tag anyone who currently has a WIP! ;P (seriously, if you're a writer with a blog, please do it!!! I so want to see everyone's answers!)

Stop the Rain Cover Reveal Tour!!

YOU. GUYS.

IT'S FINALLY HERE.

Man, I love this book so much already and I've only read snippets. Many snippets.

Kassie was working on Harley's story while I worked on Nathan's. Harley reminded me of several of my characters, and my heart went out to this poor, broken adult kid. He's basically become my nephew. No joke.

I cannot wait to read this book. Even though I know it will tear me apart even worse than Tattered Wings and O To Be Like Thee did.

So anyways, here's the book.

THAT COVER THOUGH. THAT COVER.

And here's the...

Synopsis

He left his entire world in Iraq. So why did the war follow him home?
Harley Keane and his best friend Nigel were just kids when 9/11 rocked their world and changed their lives forever. When they’re finally old enough to join the Army, all their childhood dreams seem about to come true. But war wasn’t supposed to be like this. A kid’s dream isn’t supposed to become a living nightmare. Fellow soldiers aren’t supposed to bleed out in front of your eyes.
Back home, safe and unwounded, Harley feels anything but. Why would God spare him when so many others were taken? Why won’t the nightmares stop, even when he’s awake? And how long can he hide the truth that threatens everything he has left? When Harley’s invisible scars refuse to stay hidden, will he let anyone close enough to help? And how do you go on with life when “okay” isn’t okay at all?

June 2020 Wrap-Up

Hello, friends! It's July. The middle of July. As if you didn't know. It's very hot. Which you probably also already knew. And I'm here with our rather late June wrap-up. I'm just full of shocking new information, aren't I?

Quick note before I start: I've discovered the reason why my posts for this blog don't send out notifications anymore. I think it's because it's too heavy as there are too many pictures. So I am seriously reducing the number of pictures I will be putting in this post. Sorry. :(

~ Happenings ~
// I grew out my nails! And them most of them promptly disappeared because they were so weak. I'm now putting coconut oil on them though, and they're doing well!

// We started having services in the church building we're renting. It's really so fun and nice to have a real church building! We've never had one before. We're very grateful that beyond social distancing and disinfecting things, there are no restrictions--not even masks. :) And we can still sing!

// The three little girls are now sleeping in another room and so we three big girls have the bedroom to ourselves! We were able to do a fun makeover. My desk is now in my room, which is much better. We also got our very own bookshelf! And a new bunkbed. The youngest sister sleeps on a trundle bed now, which significantly saves room. It's very nice now. And I got my fairy lights up. :)

// Right after we filled the bookshelf, we went to visit some old friends who are planning to move, and we came home with two big bags fullll of books. Many of them were books I've been looking for years for, so I was over the moon! They also gave me a thin black shortsleeved cardigan, like the kind I've also been looking for years for. <3

// I finally finished the first course of my copyediting certificate class--Grammar Lab. I did my exam on June 13th and received my final marks on the 15th. 93.63142%. 5,896.84 points out of 6,285. A-. I had 308 points out of 330 for the final exam. So I was pretty happy.

I really enjoyed the course. I learned a lot, had fun, and enjoyed talking with my classmates. And I got to discuss my favourite novel in an assignment. :D And as a result, several classmates added it to their TBRs!!!

And for the record, that exam was the only one to make me laugh out loud several times.

// I decided to actually step out and start talking about current happenings and other stuff on my blog and public Instagram accounts. The whole time I was scared I would get bashed, but instead people have thanked me. So thanks to the Lord, I've kept on. I just can't keep silent about this. My conscience won't let me. And I'm grateful for that, and for all my awesome friends who support me.

So I talk now. I talk about hard things and truths people don't like to hear. And it feels so freeing, and I am so peace-filled about it.

// I joined Pinterest. Which was one of the best things ever. I totally love it. And I haven't found it to be too much of a time sucker, as everyone predicted. I'm a visual person and I love quotes and things, so I'm finding so much pleasure in all those pictures! And I LOVE organized things, so all those boards and sections make me so happy! :D

// I have been participating in Camp NaNo & NaNoWriMo for about 7 years now. I was an enthusiastic supporter of the organization. But on June 2nd, I deleted my NaNo account, unsubscribed from all their emails, & quit following their Instagram. There are several reasons for this. NaNo’s been promoting unbiblical lifestyles (transgenderism & homosexuality) loudly for about two years now, not only to older adults but to young writers (13-18) as well; & I’ve been thinking of getting out of this organization for a while. Then on June 2 they made a blatant & unjust attack upon police officers which shocked & upset me deeply. They essentially called the police racist, which makes the family members of some dear friends of mine—people that NaNo doesn’t even know—racist, simply because they’re LEO. They also seem to support terrorist groups. I am not American, but I am not going to stand by silent at such injustice & wrong. As I said, I have deleted my NaNoWriMo account & I will no longer promote or recommend an organization that speaks such rampant injustice & does not honour authority. I am not alone. Many of my writer friends (more than one with LEO family) are also deeply upset by that attack. My friends are hurting; my friends’ country is being ravaged. The way to fix this is not by attacking the brave officers who place you & your loved ones above them & their loved ones. The way to fix this is by showing grace, love, mercy, & forgiveness, & moving on. The American justice system may have flaws, but it is not the officers’ fault, it is the responsibility of those higher up. Again, this is not political in any way, nor is it an attack upon anyone, nor is it saying that black lives don’t matter (some of my dearest friends are black), nor is it saying that every officer is a good officer, nor that racism doesn’t exist. It is simply a protest against the injustice of calling every single police officer in America racist—an insult to people I love—& against the unbiblical agenda that NaNo is pushing. You can email me if you want to see screenshots of emails & posts for proof of what I’m saying.

Since so many people took a stand with us on this, my writers’ group began working on creating an alternative to NaNo. On June 9, we were super excited to announce WE NOW HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE!! We set up a Writing Camp for Christian ladies. We tested it on June 8, and it is now officially open! It is called the King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp, & it is a free, online camp for Christian ladies of all ages. You can set your own goals; create your own tent or be placed in one of the current tents; there’s a whole Campground to chat & sprint with the other Campers on... it’s really super fun. It is on Slack, so everyone has to create an account, which is free & super quick to do—& really Slack is an extremely useful app; best messaging app I’ve ever used, actually. Camp runs from July 1st to July 31st. We have many campers of all ages from all over and we are having so much fun, as well as writing an awful lot. :) I believe it is still open if you want to join, so you can email me for information if you like.

Watching that thing explode into being was crazy. The very day we announced it, we had so many people message us asking for information or to be let in. So many people shared about it and about NaNoWriMo. We though we'd barely have 20 campers; we now have over 70. God is so good.

// So like I said in May, I started a new short story called The Colour Red which was supposed to be about 10k max. It grew to 20k, and then 30k... it's now almost at 40k. And thanks to my friends (and Pinterest) it has grown into a 3-book series--The Colour Blue, book 2, and The Colour Yellow, book 3. Which cover the history of Kalsyia. :D And it's called the Colours of Life Series. I had so much fun making Mood Boards! And doing MBTI tests for the characters. And just plain writing Colour Red. And so many people love it too and it makes me so happy. My MC is very appealing. XP I also researched/looked up some crazy/cool stuff for it, like ranch-style homes, bow windows, SUVs, ice cream flavours, lawn rollers, and German Shepherds... Asked for a lot of help from my writer friends and accidentally sparked a couple long discussions over ice cream and pizza instead of sprinting... XD (and made everyone crave said pizza and ice cream...). It's been fun. :D I also had to work really hard on the history, culture, and geography of Kalsyia. I also cried a lot. This story is so sad and so beautiful...

And I designed a lot of covers for my WIPs! They're quite nice and I'm very happy with them.

I also realized some really cool things about the books. The Colour Red is about danger & finding love; The Colour Blue, the police & finding peace; and The Colour Yellow, danger & finding hope. And those colours literally stand for all those things. And I didn't quite plan that!

// I also made a new Book Lover's Bliz reading challenge. And added all of the challenges to Pinterest! ;)

// People don’t generally reveal a book when it’s still unfinished & the author has no idea when she’ll get around to working on it. 😅 But I am not people, & I’m just crazy excited to reveal this & see other people’s opinions!! Bethany worked on this for a long time and I love it so, so much.

Ready??

Three brothers. Three characters. Three foundations. Which one will prove the strongest?

Roland, William, & Zephaniah Edwards have only a last name in common. Roland is a first lieutenant aboard one of Her Majesty’s ships, polished and gentlemanly, clinging to all the traditional prejudices and opinions of his class. Will is a stolid, silent gentleman farmer in Australia, hard and reserved, with no apparent interest in anything but his work. And Zeph is a long-legged, merry-tongued, unconventional lad with a warm heart full of love for every living creature.

When the three brothers visit their uncle, a wealthy settler in rural Australia, they create very different impressions. Roland plays the cavalier to his cousin and her friend, and conducts himself in every way like the model gentleman. Will lends his uncle his advice, and riles the farm hands by his exactingness and lack of communication. And Zeph, not content with befriending every creature on the place, decides to worm his way into the heart of his uncle’s right-hand man—a silent, rough ex-convict.

When unexpected tragedy befall the family, each young man is forced to sound for his foundation and reassess his character. Which one will emerge victorious over his foes within and without?

It’s more beautiful than I ever dreamed!! I am SO incredibly excited to finish with all my Kalsyian stories (Symphony of Hope Series + Colours of Life Series) & get to work on this one! It’s Australian Historical Fiction & it will definitely take a lot of work (not to mention a complete rewriting...) but it has great potential & I am really excited. I plan to do a blog post really soon revealing all the stories I’m currently working on... which I’m super excited about as well.

// I MANAGED TO KEEP A THEME ON MY BOOKSTAGRAM, Y'ALL. And on my lifestyle account!!

// I also started saying "y'all" a lot and my Southern friends wouldn't let it pass without a comment. XD

// For some odd reason I quoted a lot from the Anne books...

// I also kept up the typos with Bethany. XP We have quite a book-full now, and they include the most hilarious things such as toads, campaigns, and Lomé... though the one I will never live down is the one where I accidentally said I loved Beyoncé in a thread in the writing group. We laughed about that for a solid hour and I haven't heard the last of it. (Just for the record, I barely know who Beyoncé is and I don't endorse her in any way; I have no idea how that typo came about).

// I started wearing my Thin Blue Line bracelet basically 24/7. It stands for something.

// My 9-year-old brother saved his pennies and bought a box of fudgesicles for everyone to enjoy. <33

// I complained about "free giveaways" (GIVEAWAYS ARE BY DEFINITION FREE, PEOPLE) and about people writing emotion-triggering posts and using incorrect words, such as "grizzly" (a bear) instead of "grisly" (gruesome). *eye roll*

// For the first time in my 19 years I realized that I always look for the deep meaning in everything. Every time I took the MBTI test I always marked that as "no," but this time I realized... I do. Which is why I seldom share funny pins, lol! I always look below the surface of quotes or things and see that it's either not really truly or that it's nasty. It's a bit annoying. XP

// I started listening to the Bible + Brahms' Lullaby at night to go to sleep, and found it very relaxing. I gave it up though after I forgot to take off my earphones and woke up next morning with them wound all around my neck... #scary.

// While we're at it (actually this isn't related at all, but whatever) I just want to say how amazing my writing group is. There's always someone there to praise your writing, to help you brainstorm, to pray for you, or to encourage you. I love how we're always sharing things from the Bible in our "chapel," how we "sing" hymns around our "campfire," and how we all band around each other. It's amazing to have a group of likeminded ladies who have the same heart for Jesus and the same desire to reach out to the world with His word.

And we have a lot of fun, too. :)

// Also there are some amazing books coming out and I signed up for a lot of blog tours and cover reveals. XP

// I also decided we need to bring back the B) emoji. And wondered why no one used it. And I was told it's  because we now have the real thing, the sunglasses emoji.

Well, the fact is, to me that emoji always meant a smug grin. It looks like Garfield.

And I still think we should bring it back.

// I also binged-watched almost the entire Babar episodes (still not quite done) and totally fell in love. I read the books in French as a kid, but the TV show is different. I absolutely love it. it's very conservative and refreshing and sweet, very funny, very well done from a writing point of view... I only had a few little things against it (euphemisms, a couple mentions of aliens & witches, and a mention about fate, I believe is all). The episodes can be intense but also just puzzling, but they're very humorous and relaxing to me. There's just so much truth and wisdom and beauty in them! They really helped me calm down at times.

// Read the story of Micaiah (1 Kings 22 & 2 Chronicles 18) and really admired him... decided I'm totally naming a son Michée (French version).

// I read some really fantastic books, you guys. Books I've wanted to read forever; books that were strongly recommended to me... so many great ones. <33

// And I had my first piece of fan fiction. Someone designed a birthday party invitation for Jay. ;)

// I also signed up for my next class, Copyediting I.

// Oh, and we kept documenting things the kids say. The 4-year-old told us, "Tomorrow, when I grow up, I'm gonna buy some popsicles!" We also had the following dialogue:

Me: What are you going to be when you grow up?
Him: I'm going to be Big [his name] and have a plane, and a trailer truck, and a car, and a motorcycle.
Me: Where will you get the money for all that?!
Him: From the government.

// We ate a lot of tostadas and hamburgers and ice cream and chicken burgers and nachos and summer officially has the best foods.

// Besides watching Babar, I also had fun watching Country Mouse & City Mouse, Little Bear, Franklin, and Fireman Sam with my siblings. :D We also were going to take a look at Miss Spider for fun because we'd seen a couple episodes as kids and like it, but both Lissa and I were creeped out within the first ten seconds of the view because THEY ARE HUGE SPIDERS and so we didn't. XD

// We are still trying to sell our house and we've had lots of visit but no results yet (prayers appreciated)... and our amazing real estate agent keeps bringing up doughnuts when he comes. <33

// On the first Wednesday of June we kids stayed at home and watched Papa preach through livestream. It was fun and weird and interesting... XD

// I rediscovered instrumental pieces I love, like 'O min babbino caro' by Gianni Schicchi and the 'Canon & Gigue in D major' by Pachelbel.

// I've been doing really well on my read-the-Bible-in-a-year-challenge and I am learning so much and being blessed so much!! The Bible is such a marvellous book, I can't stop being amazed by it. <33

~Verse of the Month~
"Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God." (Ecclesiastes 8:12-13 AKJV).

Nox Nocti Indicat Scientiam. Yes, it is in English. And yes, it is beautiful.

~Quote of the Month~
"Natural liberty consists in the power of acting as one thinks fit, without any restraint or control, except from the laws of nature. It is a state of exemption from the control of others, and from positive laws and the institutions of social life. This liberty is abridged by the establishment of government.
Civil liberty is the liberty of men in a state of society, or natural liberty so far only abridged and restrained, as is necessary and expedient for the safety and interest of the society, state or nation. A restraint of natural liberty not necessary or expedient for the public, is tyranny or oppression. civil liberty is an exemption from the arbitrary will of others, which exemption is secured by established laws, which restrain every man from injuring or controlling another. Hence the restraints of law are essential to civil liberty.
The liberty of one depends not so much on the removal of all restraint from him, as on the due restraint upon the liberty of others.
In this sentence, the latter word liberty denotes natural liberty."

19 Random Facts About Me

Bonus fact: I adore pearls.

So, once again I am stealing a post idea from Brooklynn. xD I don't know how many of these facts you know, but I tried to think of wacky or unknown ones, soooo... xD Let's see how well I did. ;)

1. I absolutely loathe onions. I bet most people knew that. I can’t help talking about it. They’re positively sneaky. They just sit there and all of a sudden you crunch on them. Or they squish into slime. Gross. I’ve always found them so disgusting. I also dislike peas because they smell sweet... somehow that just turns me off. And the smell of mayonnaise totally disgusts me. XD Sorry if you like these stuffs—I’ve nothing personal against you if you do. XP
2. I collect blue-&-white china dolls. I’ve been collecting them for years and I have several pieces now. Several have been broken (I share a room with 4 little kids...) but my father always was able to glue them back together, so. XD
3. I really prefer to be barefoot. Bare feet over socks, socks over shoes. In the summer I’m barefoot 90% of the time. In the winter it’s more like 50%. XD
4. I have had ongoing serial stories my head ever since I can remember. They morph a lot as I meet new characters/subjects/incidents in books, and the spotlight has shifted several times from one family to another. Someday I want to write some of those down... but they’re so near and dear to me, I don’t know if I can.
5. If someone says something there’s a 50% chance it’ll remind me of a quotation & a 45% chance that I’ll say that quotation aloud. Of course I have my pet ones that my family’s heard a million times, but every once in a while I pull out a new one... I really can’t help it and it puts some fun into the day! It wouldn’t be the same if when someone said “that thing” someone else didn’t say “that thing can sing. That thing can sing like anything.” Or if someone says “has anybody seen...?” it is incumbent on someone to answer, “Has anybody seen my mouse?” (Please tell me if you recognize these quotations... someone has to!)
6. I am obsessed by rings and have always been. XD I’ve also always thought they looked prettier on the middle finger than on the fourth one. I’ve also always been in love with high heels, earrings (especially big golden hoops!!), roses, and wedding dresses. 😍😍😍😍😍
7. Due to my bookshelf having been composed 95% of classics/old books until I was about 15, formal/old words come naturally to me. When I write, I will often sit for a minute or two trying to remember what is that word that starts with i and means “a responsibility.” Sometimes I have to recourse to a thesaurus or Google, other times it comes after some brain-wracking. XD
8. Following on the last fact, I also have no idea how to pronounce those words generally. As a rule, I only hear spoken English through videos & my family. The English words are the words of my heart, but the English pronunciation is entirely foreign to my tongue! XD I am constantly being corrected by my friends and mother when I talk. And if it’s a French word... forget it. I’ll say it the French way and likely have no idea how to say it the English way!
9. Babies and little children totally steal my heart. Only I have no idea how to handle them, for all that I have 8 little siblings and don’t know life without a baby or a little one! So I usually love them from afar... or for about five minutes if they’re nearby. XD
10. I dislike when people who make ebook copies of books put the italicized words in capitals instead of italics. Because WHO has not the same inflection as who. Minor pet peeve of mine. XD
11. I will be found singing random hymns or songs (or the Messiah) at any given time. And if someone else joins me so we can sing beautifully together it makes my heart so happy.
12. I hoard chocolate for a long, long time. Months, in fact. Also, I tend to hoard my money (a habit from when I was young and money was a scarce commodity for me) and books (because new books were widely-spaced events. This year, with the 800+ new books waiting for me to read, I’ve gotten over hoarding books. Now I just struggle to find time to read them. XD
13. I really, really love natural peanut butter. Also mozzarella & cheddar cheese. And black or green olives (the stuffed ones are the best!!!). And scrambled eggs. Those are some of my all-time favourite food. Btw, the smell of frying meat is my favourite smell, and the smell of eggs cooking is second best. Weird, I know. (And by the way... totally going random here, but Hawaiian pizza (aka with pineapples & ham) is super yummy. My favourite pizza is pepperoni & cheese, but the second favourite is Hawaiian. Also, Montréal pizza is the best. If you've never eaten any, you've never tasted real pizza.)
14. I have a deep love for the two golden hours of the day. By which I mean the golden hour of the evening, from like 6:00-8:30 when things are quiet and the sun is low and the whole atmosphere is golden; and the golden hour of the afternoon, around 5:00-5:30, when the day is starting to wind down but it’s not evening yet. My favourite time of day in the summer is the period from about 5 to 8:30. I always go outside then if I can.
15. I prefer to sit on the floor than on a chair, and I like to be able to lean against the wall or something else that’s solid.
16. When I was about 8 my uncle got married and I was his flower-girl. I wrecked my flower-girl dress one day when I was wearing it while playing on an exercise bike. It was fixed, and is still in my closet... and I love it. When I was about 16 my mother made me a regency dress which is gorgeous but I hated wearing it (I didn’t like how it looked on me and I found it uncomfortable) so it’s also hanging in my closet. XD
17. I have a pronounced dislike to noises that are spasmodic and irregular. People tapping on a keyboard, chewing things, making random noises that aren’t continual... drives me BANANAS. Unfortunately, I do it a lot myself and it doesn’t bother me when I do it because I know my pattern... but then people think I’m inconsistent. XP
18. I love being in the wind. There’s nothing like swinging outside when the wind is tearing through the trees and making them roar like the sea. I love to hear the wind in trees, so much. I totally relate to Heidi there.
19. I have a bad habit (well, not really, since it’s not intentional, but anyways—) of dreaming of meeting friends and they’re either awful or very unlike themselves, or something terrible happens. For instance, I dreamed I went to visit a friend in Japan and we ended up being attacked by American Indians. Oddly enough, no mater how terrifying the dream is I’m never afraid... but I have been afraid of people after because they were awful in my dream. XD

Happy Canada Day!

O Canada, our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command!
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee!
God, keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

Dear Canada. My country. My home. A unique place. A place where we speak both French and English. A country spanning 9.985 million km². A place where we have deserts and polar cold. A country which proudly claims its North-ness and is convinced that it owns the North Pole. A country which envelopes many, many different cultures and is proud of its diversity. A place where you can remain your original culture & yet be Canadian. (A concept utterly impossible to explain, apparently). A country which is rich in natural beauty & variety.

O Canada, where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread, and lordly rivers flow!
How dear to us thy broad domains,
From east to western sea!
Thou land of hope for all who toil,
Thou True North strong and free!
God, keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

Canada. A mentality few understand. A place where we have always had unique struggles as radically different cultures live side-by-side. A country of which we are quietly proud. A country where we constantly apologize and think nothing of it. A country which still claims England. A country where we are proud to have democracy & human rights. A country which looks for the good of all, and not the individual. A country with a varied, rich, largely unknown history. A country which does not seek the limelight. A country which focuses largely on itself.

O Canada! beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens,
To keep thee steadfast through the years,
From east to western sea,
Our own beloved native land,
Our True North strong and free!

God, keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

Canada. A place which is in great need of prayer & missionaries. A country which has wandered far from its God and which must return. A country in need of revival.

Ruler supreme! who hearest humble prayer,

Hold Thy Dominion in Thy loving hand!

Help us to find, O God, in Thee a lasting rich reward!
As waiting for the better day,
We ever stand on guard!
God, keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

These verses are our official anthem, written by The Honourable Robert Stanley Weir. An anthem which sums us up and is our own. Below are some verses which are also sung to the tune of O Canada and which I am very fond of.

O Canada! our heritage, our love!
Thy worth we praise all other lands above!
From sea to sea throughout their length,
From Pole to borderland,
At Britain’s side, whate’er betide,
Unflinchingly we’ll stand!
With hearts we sing, “God save the King!”
Guide then an Empire wide, do we implore,
And prosper Canada from shore to shore!
--Ewing Buchan

Canada. A strong part of the British Empire. A country which was proud of its heritage, proud of its independence, and proud of its sovereign. A country which was built up by a good deal of British work. A country which still has close ties to Britain & the Empire in language.

Almighty Love, by Thy mysterious power,
In wisdom guide, with faith and freedom dower;
Be ours a nation evermore
That no oppression blights,
Where justice rules from shore to shore,
From lakes to Northern Lights.
May love alone for wrong atone;
Lord of the lands, make Canada Thine own!
Lord of the lands, make Canada Thine own!
--Albert D. Watson

Canada. A place where we have many difficulties, many struggles, many mistakes, many problems. But nevertheless, a place which is still very blessed and happy.

Almighty God! on Thee we call:

Defend our rights, forfend this nation’s thrall!

Defend our rights, forfend this nation’s thrall!
--Thomas Bedford Richardson

Canada. A place which is still free. A place which, please God, will stay free. A place where, please God, we will never be conquered by either outside or inside evil.

We stand on guard for thee, Canada.

Stay glorious and free.

Remain a dominion of God.

Ruler Supreme, stand by us & protect us. We call on Thee for protection & grace.
